March Meeting @ Moosejaw

posted Mar 31, 2014, 9:15 AM by Kansas City Climbing Community   [ updated Apr 1, 2014, 7:55 PM ]

Thank you to everyone who came out for the meeting on Thursday night! I had a blast talking about some of my favorite Arkansas crags. Hopefully some (all?) of you were inspired to try climbing someplace new this season!

Rock Climbing in Arkansas Slideshow

There are so many wonderful places to climbing Arkansas. This slideshow highlights a few of them! Thank you to everyone who submitted photos to make this slideshow so pretty.

Slip and Slide for Horseshoe Hell

Members decided to again support a KCCC sponsored Slip N Slide at 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell again this year. Costs will be low as most materials can be reused from last year. One member offered a free banner to be used as the plastic slide (15 ft X 45 ft). Biggest need will be volunteers for set up and tear down! Need about 4 people for an hour of setup, and 4 people for an hour of tear down. Will test the slide on the spring trip. Hell is in late September. (If you're not competing, being a spectator is possibly even more fun!)

Everyone welcome. No experience necessary. Top ropes will be set up for those who want/need them.
Peter Chollett will cook meat and veggie burgers Saturday night! Bring a side to share.
Camping and climbing costs $5 per night and $5 per day.
No dogs.
Check our Resources page for packing and area information.

Rebolting Missouri

As previously discussed, a drill has been purchased by the KCCC to aid the continual effort of replacing Missouri anchors with Wave Bolt glue-ins. We are currently waiting on a sweet deal to buy the Wave Bolts. Jesse is the master and commander of the drill and its use. More info will be forthcoming once the ball really gets rolling.

Chiropractic Advice by Josh & Katie

KCCC member Josh Lockrow recently became an official chiropractor! He works at the Healing Arts Center of Lanexa and is offering KCCC members free kineseo taping! Josh and Katie (a chiropractor specializing in internal wellness) talked about the benefits of using a foam roller before and after climbing on forearms to help alleviate and reduce tendonitis. They also stressed the importance of NOT over training, and reminded us that pain is our body's way of communicating to us that something is not okay! To schedule an appointment with Josh, contact him personally at lifewaychiro@gmail.com .

Moosejaw & Boulevard Pop-Up IPA Launch

Free beer at Moosejaw on Saturday, March 29th, 4pm to close as Boulevard launches their newest concoction: Pop-Up IPA!

Ladies' Trip to Sam's Throne & Elsewhere (TBD)

April 18-20, 2014
Hosted by Carol & Camille Fittell
No experience necessary.
Camp at Sam's Throne, climb somewhere nearby on Saturday.
Burrito Bar Saturday night, everyone bring an item to share.
Join us at Backwoods' Ladies Night on Thursday before the trip for a little pre-gaming fun.

We have only received logo submissions from one person, so we have extended the deadline to June 30th so that students who are too busy to work on a logo can do so after school is out. Please send us some work so we can have the club vote! I know you guys are full of creative energy, send some of that our way and have your work memorialized in the club for years to come.  Plus, you get your membership extended for a year for free. We might also add a monetary incentive but have not yet decided!

As per usual, Moosejaw provided us with gear to raffle off! As usual, we charged $5 per ticket, or 5 for $20, raising $225 for miscelaenous club expenses such as anchor bolting equipment, burgers for the spring trip, the slip n slide, and other KCCC endeavors. A 9.2mm Fusion Nano 60m Rope (neon orange) went to Paige Schillig (we promise it wasn't rigged!) with 10 $10 Moosejaw Gift Cards, a few biners, hats, and Tech Wash.
