Meeting - Squamish & the Bugaboos!

posted Feb 7, 2014, 1:23 PM by Kansas City Climbing Community   [ updated Feb 25, 2014, 8:40 AM ]
Thank you Backwoods (especially Alex!) for hosting our February meeting and providing swag for our raffle.  After perusing the racks of sale items, we gathered around their sweet TV for a visual trip to Canada.  First we detoured to the official meeting agenda (we really did write an agenda, albeit a bit drunkenly at a party).

Minutes

Logo

KCCC is looking for a new logo!  This logo will be the face of our club on membership cards, emails, the website, and any other media we produce.  To submit a design, send an email to KCClimbingClub@gmail.com by February 28th.  The club will then vote on design, and the designer will receive a year membership for appreciation.

Paradox Sports - Summit Series

Join us at the University of Central Missouri on Friday, February 21st, at 7pm at the Student Rec Center for a presentation on overcoming challenges through adaptive climbing techniques by Timmy O'Neill, Sean O'Neill, and Pete Davis followed by climbing and crate stacking!  These guys are a hoot and this is going to be a blast!

Anchor Drill

KCCC will be purchasing a hammer drill for anchor replacement initiatives at local crags such as Cliff Drive, Warsaw, and Trappers.  Jesse was selected (involuntarily?) as the screening process for deciding who may use the drill once purchased.  Thanks, Jesse!  No objections were voiced.

Training Notebooks

Bryan brought a sample running log notebook for the club to look at (about 3" X 5", hard cover, spiral bound, ~40 pages).  Thoughts are to have a few hundred printed with the new KCCC logo, and route specific information inside for climbers to track their climbing.  Thoughts are that this would be especially useful for 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell training.  Ideas for information include route name, difficulty, laps, style, etc.  The opposite page would be blank or lined for notes so the notebook could be used for more than just route info.  Printing needs to be checked, but thoughts are to sell the books for $5.

Upcoming Events

We forgot to mention these things at the meeting, but here's what's coming up:
February - Anchor Clinic (rigging top rope anchors on bolts) at Monster Mountain on Tuesday, February 18th, 7pm-9pm.  Taught by yours truly, Carol.
March - Meeting at Moosejaw to plan for the Spring Trip!  Special discount night to get your gear closet ready for spring. Meeting will be in late March, details TBD.
April - Early April (most likely) will be our Spring Trip!  Details are TBD.  Location will likely be decided by the club as a whole.

With the formalities out of the way, we moved on to the meat of the meeting: the presentations!
