Hey KCCC

It's officially spring, and we have a jam-packed newsletter full of great events and deals to help you get ready for that good send weather!

Annual KCCC Spring Trip

Mark your calendars and pack your gear, April 27th-29th are the dates. For this year’s spring trip, we are headed to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in Jasper Arkansas. Look for the KCCC Banner when hunting down a campsite. Please be aware pets are not allowed at the ranch. When traveling, please carpool if possible. There are a lot of new climbers coming down so if anyone would like to volunteer to help set up top ropes or help guide climbers, please reach out to KCCC Leadership. There will be a potluck Saturday Evening (Burgers and Veggie Burgers supplied), bring a dish to share and BYOP, bring your own plate. To support the community we will also be raffling off a rope! 1 ticket = $5 or 5 tickets = $20. Bring cash.

Pre-Trip Meeting

Our Pre-trip meeting will be held at Moosejaw on the Plaza @ 6:30 pm, Wednesday, April 25th. We’ll have a panel discussion on 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell. Come learn strategy and tactics for competing. If you’ve never heard of 24HHH, come learn what all the hype is about. Enjoy 30% off Moosejaw branded gear and 20% off everything else.

Cliff Drive Cleanup & Climb!

Come celebrate Earth Day (April 22nd) and help us do some spring cleaning at our beloved (and only) crag, Cliff Drive! KCCC and our event partners will be providing goodies, gloves, trash bags, and all other supplies; all you need to bring is yourself (and maybe a friend or two)! In addition to litter clean-up, we’re partnering with the Cliff Drive Corridor Management Committee who will be helping us clear out some of the invasive bush honeysuckles that both displace our native plants and promote litter by collecting trash in their roots/branches. Keep an eye out for the Facebook invite for up to date info!

Apex Meeting

Joe Cuda will be recounting his trip to Colorado, climbing mutli-pitch at 14,000 ft, at Apex @ 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 28th. Apex is allowing KCCC members to climb for $5 that day. We’ll also have a climbing gear spring cleaning. Bring your gear to clean and lube cams, center-mark your rope, ID mark your gear, etc.

Annual Cabin Fever Showdown at Ibex

The Annual Cabin Fever showdown will be April 21st this year! Ibex has combined the adults in with the kids to shorten the day and keep the energy high. Females climb in the morning from 8 am until 1 pm, males go from 1 pm to 6 pm. The raffle is back by popular demand and Ibex will have a ton of great items to give away! Ibex expects this to be its largest comp yet and have set a max of 85 participants for each session. Register today at https://www.climbibex.com/competitions/ to ensure your spot before it fills up! Early registration is $35 and includes a comp T-Shirt. Ibex needs approximately 45 volunteers per session to belay for competitors. Each volunteer will receive a free T-Shirt, 2 free raffle entries, 2 vouchers for a free day pass with gear, and will be fed donuts and pizza. Volunteer for both sessions and get a pair of day passes and a pair of raffle entries for each session! Volunteer signups are on the same registration page at https://www.climbibex.com/competitions/

New Massage Sponsor!

During Noah and Tim’s wonderful Zion presentation last month at Apex, there were a lot of “oooohs” and “ahhs!” at the back of the room. Some of it was because Kayla Ritter, LMT brought her chair and gave complimentary massages. I’m sure the lucky few who signed up in time can tell you how great it felt. After my sample back rub, I booked an hour session the next week. She brought her table to my living room and it felt pretty amazing. It's pretty convenient to have her come to you. KCCC is excited to partner with Therapeutic Touch Mobile Massage.  Kayla is offering KCCC paid members a 15% discount off her regular rates. Click here to check out her FB page.

Pizza for Bolts!

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the fundraiser at Firenza Pizza in February, and to all those who donated outside of the event. Proceeds will go to re-bolting local crags—stay tuned for further ways to help this cause! For those of you who were unable to make it…you missed out on some amazing pizza! Special thanks to local KCCC climber, pizza prodigy, and Firenza owner: Mel Ginther.

Ain't No Party Like a KCCC Party!

The winter party this year was a huge success, it was wonderful to see so many familiar and new faces. Main attractions included the chair traverse (better luck next year, folks!), the stump game (aka Hammerschlagen), and the custom photo booth (did anyone not get a new profile picture from that party?!).  Great food, beverage, and company around a beautiful bonfire made for a perfect night.

Huge shout out to Rob Rice for hosting and special thanks to KC Cider Co. for the amazing cider!
